Remembering Rizal

Do you know Rizal? Some of us only know him as our national hero and only know the date of his death because it’s written on the calendar as the national holiday Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado Y Alonzo Realonda or simply Jose Rizal and often called Pepe. He was born June 19, 1861 at Calamba, Laguna the 7th child of Francisco Mercado and Teodora Alonzo. These are the simple facts about Rizal, only few people know his childhood, that’s why we have watched the play “Batang Rizal”.

When our adviser told us that we will watch the play “Batang Rizal” at assumption theater, I was so happy because it's another day without classes. Then she said that  the fee is 300, then my emotions went upside down but it’s still nice, then she said that the transportation is separated from the fee, so I think the classes is better but then I thought that maybe it’s expensive because of something and I’ve never been there before.

Days passed, the day of the play came, I was so excited because we were going to watch “Batang Rizal”. On the way to the assumption theater, it was so boring because it’s too hot and there were no music, it’s nice that others share their snacks. When we arrived at assumption theatre we go inside and got separated because we brought our bags and the bags are not allowed so we left it at the guard and the guard put tags in our things. I think the majority are at the 2nd floor and the rest are at the 1st floor. Time passed then the play begun.

The play was about a pupil named “Pepito” the protagonist who was studying in Rizal Elementary School. The story starts with pupils who were practicing for the celebration of the “Buwan ng Wika”. They played then Pepito bumped to the statue of Rizal and broke it then he want to the library then he found a book that brought time travels and take him to the time of Rizal. He first saw Rizal’s sisters and they strained that Pepito was Pepe. On that day Pepe was sick. When when they go to Rizal’s house he saw Rizal in person then they became friends. Pepito asks Pepe to come along to Pepito’s time and help him, and when he got to Pepito’s time Pepe met Pepito’s classmates and he saw everything that in Pepito’s time he was so famous that they made a statue of him. Pepe helped Pepito from his problem then the antagonists came, the 3 bullies from their class to stop them from fixing the problem but then the protagonists beat the antagonists and finish their problem and they live happily ever after the end.

The play was great it’s funny and full of good morals. It teaches us that even if we our problem is big we should always face it. You will only lose if you can’t fight for it anymore. Life is short, live your life the way you want, but don't hesitate do it slowly just like climbing stairs, step by step.
